What neoprene thickness should I choose?

As a rough guide, surfers can consider 1.5mm suitable for warm water temperatures above 22°C. The most common thickness is 3mm, which is ideal for water between 14°C and 22°C, depending on your personal comfort level. For cold water below 14°C, a 5mm suit is recommended. Divers should opt for more thickness as temperatures drop at depth. If the water is colder than 18°C, you should consider a 5mm suit, whereas 1.5mm is only recommended for diving in tropical waters.

Are the seams heavy-duty resistant against leaking?

Seams are the most vulnerable part of any wetsuit. To maximize durability, all neoprene seams should be located in low-stress areas. Placing seams in the crotch or underarms is a common mistake, as constant stretching inevitably weakens them and leads to leaks. Our seams are hand-stitched, a key hallmark of quality. While many mass-produced suits are merely glued, our seams are built to last. For our 1.5mm and 3mm suits, we use two-thread single-blind stitching on the exterior; for 5mm suits, we use two-thread double-blind stitching on both sides. The wrist, ankle, and neck seals are crafted from super-multi-flex, heat-reflecting titanium neoprene. This material features a specially treated, smooth surface for easy donning and doffing. This design minimizes water exchange, ensuring superb thermal insulation. For our stitching, we use water-repellent Serafil WR from the Amann Group—an essential component for truly watertight seams.

What material do you use?

Our wetsuits are made 100 % from double-lined neoprene – neoprene with 4-way-stretch nylon lining on both sides, inside and out – designed for protection, durability, and warmth, as well as excellent elasticity and compression. We do not use smooth-skin neoprene, which offers better wind protection but is less flexible and restricts your movement. Furthermore, combining two types of neoprene with different elasticities makes the wetsuit less durable. We use W8 neoprene between the nylon linings. It is the most commonly used neoprene, providing better pliability and softness than other materials. Its high elasticity is ideal for surfing and diving to depths of 30 meters. W8 is available in more than a dozen Colors. For knee and elbow pads, we use polyurethane padding that is heat-transferred and stitch-free. Stitching pads onto the knee and elbow is a bad, albeit too common, idea, as it can weaken the outer layer of the wetsuit when bent. Our stitch-free pads are stretchable and highly abrasion-resistant. For zippers, we use the revolutionary stainless steel G-Lock zipper, which is unlike any other wetsuit zip. Its uniquely designed offset teeth turn wetsuits into drysuits. They offer almost no water penetration. Stainless-steel G-Lock zips are corrosion-resistant and virtually unbreakable. For the seams, we use Serafil WR from the Amann Group—a water-repellent, high-performance polyester multifilament thread. For decades, it has been synonymous with quality, reliability, and perfectly finished seams.
